Imagination takes me clean.

Here is the second of two collaborations with "Ulf Pettersson". That excellent Swedish composer. The title of this one is "I wanna see". This is a song I wrote as a bit of a parody, but then Ulf heard it and requested to do the music for me. I was fascinated to see what he would come up with and this is the result. I think it beats my original music hands down.

As with the previous 4 songs. This one does not feature on my album "Sight Or Sound".

I would love to do more work with Ulf in the future, because I really respect the work he has done so far. Ulf is quite taken by my songs as well. Unfortunately we are both tied up with our own tasks at the moment. Ulf is busy building a catalogue for Film and Television, and I'm busy writing and collaborating with other musicians. So you may have heard some of his stuff without even knowing it :)

Check out "I wanna see":

This is the next installment of bits frmo my Dad's life.

My Dad. Part 9.

I mentioned before that my father got involved with some unsavoury characters. Before I met him, and before I knew who he was, I made many friends myself. I was to find out later that some of those meetings were not by accident. I'm not a judge of people. I base my assumptions on how they treat me. There were a few of my friends that told me that I shouldn't really mix with some of the people I met, because they were trouble. Though whilst I went around with them, there was never any trouble. Not in my company. Beefcake is probably a bit of an insulting term, but they certainly weren't short on bravery. In fact, most people were afraid of them. Except me of course. They never gave me any reason to fear, and to be honest with you. I wasn't afraid of much at all. I was of the mind that if something bad came along, you dealt with it. There's no point worrying about the prospect. I can't say I was that surprised to find out that my dad knew these people. He even knew those that I did odd jobs with when I left school.

I'm going to tell you a tale of something that reportedly went on at Cowgate road. To protect me from any recriminations, I'm going to say that this is alleged. This is something that my father recounted. He can't be sued because he is now dead. He wanted me to tell this. You may well have heard of the welsh singing star "Tom Jones". Well it involves him. I think most of you know who he is. The story goes that he took a 14 year old girl into the fields at Cowgate road and had sex with her. Pregnancy followed, but the poor girls life was cut short, because she died from leukemia. Perhaps she was willing in the act, but as far as I know, it was still illegal. I don't know if this story is known at all. It's quite astonishing in my eyes. Maybe not unusual for the 60's. He was most definitely an adult at the time. A number of my family members are not exactly fans of Tom, but after knowning that story, it's not really surprising.

To be continued.......

There's been a good deal of interest in my album release. It's still being rolled out to internet shops, and wont be available in all of them for a couple of months. Though it's already on CDBaby, Amazon and Itunes. You can check out some of the songs on my website at:

Jeff Edwards official website

You can get to Ulf Pettersson's site via my links page. There are also a number of free high quality downloads of some of my other songs!!

It's time for those Youtube numbers again.

I'm getting quite excited with the sub count. It's at 992. So, so close to the magic 1,000 mark now.

The visitors to my channel now count 23,296, and the sum total of all my video views are 397,648. They have surged over the last week.

Last, but by no means least....

That's 5 original songs on the trot. Now it is time for a few cover versions. The next one will be "Lost" by "Coldplay". A song that's been requested of me quite a few times over the last month.

Swings and roundabouts

Here is the 4th out of 5 originals. It started life as an instrumental. Which was penned by a fantastic Swedish musician called "Ulf Pettersson". The first time i heard it, I imagined vocals blending into it. I told Ulf about this, and suggested that I try my ideas out. He was curious to see the results. Ulf liked a lot of the stuff I did on my own, and there's a twist on one of those coming soon. For now though, this one is called "Swings and roundabouts". There are benefits to being in a relationship, and there are benefits to being on your own. There are some that you can't have in both though, and this is about one persons struggle with those problems.

This is what we came up with.

You can find out more about Ulf, through a link on my website at:

Now some more about my Dad.

My Dad. Part 8.

I didn't know about my dad's addiction to alcohol when I first met him. Everybody called him "Woodsy". I didn't know what it meant. I was never that curious, and at that time I was unaware that he earned the name for his liking for "Woods Navy Rum". Rum was his favourite tipple, though I think anything with a decent amount of alcohol in it would have done. So that's how I finally found him. Before the knowledge of his exploits. I'm sure there are a lot of people that might criticise his life. I have done myself on occasion. The fact remains that he was my father. I feel no shame in that. Along with my mother. He is responsible for me being on this earth.

In the swinging sixties, drink was celebrated. Drugs were also on many menus. My dad chose drink over drugs as a preference. That's not to say he didn't take drugs, because he did. Though I think that was more for reasons of popularity. He didn't go seriously into any types of drug, but he did like a bit of cannabis. There was a time when we were watching a movie where there was a pot smoking session in a private room. My father had a wry smile at that scene. I remember him telling me about times when members of the Rolling Stones were doing something very similar in my grandmother's back bedroom. With the Rolling Stones. Somehow that story is believable :) Apparently, a member of that band resides within a few miles from me.

My nan would have been horrified. She knew absolutely nothing about those events. She adored her son, and would refuse to beleive such a thing. Everybody else seemed to know what he was like. Everybody but her.

There's more parts to this, and a celeb bit. It's a real shocker. So if you are a Tom Jones fan then be prepared. That's all I can say.

To be continued.......

Here's how it all stands with Youtube.

I now have a total of 975 subscribers. 25 to go.

One more bonus stat. 5,952 comments on all of my videos, and that doesn't include any of my own comments.

The last of the chain of 5 originals is another collaboration with Ulf Pettersson. I'll also be telling you a bit about Ulf's musical history.

I can't calm her down

This is the third of 5 Original songs, and it goes by the name of "She freaks". This one developed out of a days jamming with "Steve Morgan". I'd done a rough sketch of the song before, and all the missing bits had been filled in by the end of the session. It's another one of those songs about a couple in a relationship. One of them being placid and the other being flighty. It's not just the girl that flips. It can be the other way around. Some will listen and know exactly what I'm talking about. Have a listen.

Another no show on the album, but still a good song in my eyes. Perhaps because I had so many others to choose from, and I wasn't totally happy with the production. Check out some sound clips of songs that did make it to the album through my website at:

Here is another interesting link for you if you feel like it. Not so long ago, I went to a friend's wedding, which was held on the Isle of man. I have to say, it's probably the best one I've ever been to. I thought I'd provide a link to some of the many, many photograps taken on that weekend. I'm in one or two of them. Their favourite of me is where I was captured standing windswept on the top of mount Snaefell. Go take a look :)

Rachel and Richard's wedding

My Dad. Part 7.

Nan always adored my father. Regardless of all the things he did. Everybody else in the family looked like a saint compared to him. He was just likeable. I was unaware of his existence until I was 18 years old. After I found out, I pondered over it for a little while and then left it until I was 21. I finally found him through my Grandmother Lily. Another person I'd never met. Once I discovered where she lived, I just went straight up to the front door. I didn't really know what to think as I was waiting outside the door. I'd seen all these long lost reunions on T.V. and they were all emotional, but I have to say that I felt nothing like that. Only curiosity. When the door opened I was greeted with a little white haired lady who just said "Hello". I think I said something like "Hello, are you Lily?". To which she replied yes. I then said to her "I'm John's son. Jeffrey". She just smiled and invited me in. I was quite surprised, because she lived in a neighbourhood that wasn't very pleasant. I could have been anybody, and she just invited me in. Maybe she saw the resemblance. I have been informed on more than one occasion that my father and I look alike. She put the kettle on, and got the biscuits and old photographs out to view. During my visit, she called my father on the telephone to arrange a meeting with me in a local public house. Amazing with hindsight because he avoided other offspring.

The day arrived to meet him and I turned up at the pub, initally going into the wrong bar. When I finally went into the right bar, there was a crowd of people in the corner, and he was among them. What do you do in those situations. I just homed in on him and said "Hello Dad". Then gave him a quick hug. For me, there was virtually no emotion in that embrace. After all, this is first time I'd encountered this person. He was a stranger in my eyes. He seemed pretty nervous to begin with, but once the ice was broken, a party mood ensued.

More on this to come, and some more celeb stuff.

To be continued.......

Movement, but not to the album.

This song also didn't make it to the "Sight Or Sound" Album. This one is called "Movement". A friend suggested that I put together a tune that was about the world and the environment. I thought over it for a while, and then came up with the idea of a global situation from the perspective of an animal. We sometimes use the movements of animals to help us to detect things, because they just seem to know.

Here is the result of my efforts.

This one didn't make the album because I thought there were many others that were better in composition and arrangement. I mentioned previously that there are 10 songs that feature on my album, that are available to listen to in full on Youtube. There are many, many positive words from many people, and some of these comments have now been added to the CDBaby page. You can read the comments selection at:

My Dad. Part 6.

Lulu wasn't exclusively in my father's bad books. Someone else was P.J.Proby. I was told that my father decked him for making advances to one of his girlfriends. Tsk tsk. I bet that sort of thing happened regularly. It could also be that my Dad was opposed to his pretentiousness. I was told by Dad that P.J. used to perform on stage wearing drainpipe trousers, and in an effort to impress the ladies, he used to put a section of hosepipe inside his trousers to make the girls think he was gifted in the groin. Oh what disappointment there must have been if he managed to attract anybody as a result of his efforts. That old saying "The truth will out" is probably the most fitting term to use.

My dad also liked to do a bit of DIY. There was a time when his sister asked him to paint her bedroom. Not for free though. Everything seemed to work out well. After completion she had a quick look at the room and was happy with the results. That pleasure didn't last for long though. A few days after the room had been painted, she thought she'd shift the furniture around. That's when she found out that all my father had done was painted around everything. There were large unpainted areas behind all objects that were against a wall. I'm sure she must have had some choice words for him afterwards. He never told me those.
