Original song - When I grow

Tags:
@ 05:13 AM (19 months, 16 days ago)

This is another Original song from me. As it is a love song, I uploaded it to youtube just before Valentines day. I noticed a lot of love orientated videos being put up in the lead up to Valentines day, so I thought I'd chip in.

It's name is "When I grow". It's an expression of promise and dedication.

Here it is :)

A few months ago, I altered my channel description. I invited other Youtube users to make cover versions of my original songs. I figured that this would be a good idea to help spread my music around. I mention it in this post, because someone did a cover version of this song. If you go and pay a visit to my Youtube channel, you will see I have some playlists. One of them is called "Covers and uses of my songs". You will also find 4 other videos that someone has used the instrumental versions of my songs in.

Last, but not least. The Youtube bits and bobs.

My subscribers are now up to 516. My next mini landmark will be 600.

The channel viewings have passed the 11k mark and now stand at 11,009.

The total video views are 146,277. A little over a hundred thousand more to make it to a quarter of a million :) That will take a few months I think :) Still, you never know. None of my videos have been featured by Youtube. Along with many other Youtube members. If, by chance that should happen in the short term. The figures will go beserk.

From an Original to a cover. An excellent song which is not so well known. However, the band is.

Something by The Fray

My next song was another cover version. Last year, a few people requested that I sing a song by a band called "The fray". I finally managed to get around to doing one a short while back, because of the large number of requests I already had lined up. I ended up going for a song of theirs called "How to save a life". If you watch Gray's Anatomy at all, you may well be familiar with this song.

This was one of the videos that a Hater decided to see whether they could upset me. What a mistake they made :)

I ended up making another video about this experience on another channel. A lighter look at it. Some people on Youtube block haters immediately, but I decided to engage in conversation, and what happened in the end, was rather surprising, and pleasing. They actually blocked me!!!

If you go to Youtube and check out the comments on this video, you'll get an idea of the conversation that was had. They started commenting on another video, and it all wound up on this one.

Moving on to the tune. This is my version of "How to save a life" by "The fray".

And so we come to the Youtube Statistics again.

I've now got 509 Subscribers.

My channel viewings are extremely close to 11k now. They are 10,986.

144,696 total viewings of all my videos.

Coming next is another Original song from me :)

Everybody hurts

On to video fifty five. This is undoubtedly one of the best songs that REM ever produced, and is fantastic to sing. I can't remember how many times I've sung this song, but it's quite a lot. It is of course "Everybody hurts". A song that is vocally challenging.

This is my rendition of this classic song:

Now for the Youtube stuff.

It's happened! I've gone past 500 subscribers. This was helped a bit by someone else on Youtube featuring me in one of their vids. Down to the figures.

My subscribers are now 508.

The viewings of my channel are 10,981.

Total viewings = 143,916.

The next video is a more modern song, and it was also one of the videos that my pet hater appeared :).

You are - My Original

Tags:

This song was recorded before all the other originals I've put up on Youtube. It was recorded about 4 years ago. It was recorded in a studio in West Worthing.

Here is the tale behind it.

I am not really a fan of entering competitions, but my local pub ran a karaoke comp, and all my friends kept on urging me to go in for it. I refused at first, but they wore me down, and I entered. There was a qualifying round, and a final. To cut a long story short, I won the competition.

The first prize was a day in a recording studio, to record one song. The guy who ran the studio came up to me and asked me what song I wanted to do, so that he could get the backing. That got my grey cells lighting up. I asked him if it was alright if I recorded one of my own songs. He was very happy about that, and even seemed excited.

In the end, I ended up being in the studio for a few weeks. I paid for all the extra time myself. So it wasn't just one song I came out with. I ended up recording 9 of my songs. I wasn't too happy with the vocals in those songs, but I never really am :)

All the music was performed by the "Mick", the studio owner (his main instrument was the Bass Guitar). This is one of the songs from that collection. It's a song called "You are".

A couple of people commented on why it seems to finish in a strange way. The idea behind that was that the story is not over yet, so I wanted to leave the song hanging, so as to speak.

Here it is. "You are"

Here's the usual Youtube stats digest :).

I now have 499 Subscribers. So, so close to 500 now.

My channel views are at 10,913. Almost at 11k.

Finally the total video views are 140,131.

For my next trick. An R.E.M. anthem :)

So Blue

Tags:
@ 05:54 AM (19 months, 24 days ago)

Now for another original. The title of this one is "So blue". I wrote this one a couple of years ago. The idea was to try and start with one style. Then change the style part way through the song. It all matched up quite nicely with the lyrics. The first part of the song deals with someone putting a happy face on. The second part deals with what is really going on in their mind.

Here is "So Blue".

There has been some positive action with my Youtube stats. When I turned my computer on this morning, I discovered lots of emails, and a bigger than normal jump in subscribers. This was due to another channel on Youtube. Every week they pick 5 Youtubers to feature in a video, and today it was my turn :)

So this is how it all stands at the moment.

Subscribers = 488

Channel views = 10,890

Overall video views = 138,755

Next up is another original song from further back :)

This years love had better last

Here's another song that I have sung a number of times, and it's quite popular among my friends. It's probably one of the most well known David Gray songs. It's title is "This year's love".

This is my version:

Now for the usual Youtube update, and a little something special after that :)

I've now got 475 subscribers. Closing in on the 500 mark.

Channel views are rolling forward and are now 10,866.

The total video views are at 137,810. Not too far away from 150k now :)

Now for something completely different.

Since I've been a member of youtube, I've shared my videos with my friends as I've uploaded them. On rare occasions I've shared someone elses video, If I thought there was something really special about it. So I'm going to share this one with you, and give you a link to go and take a look.

It's a 12 year old girl singing. Her mother runs the channel for her. Go over and take a look, and remember that this girl is only 12 years old. An astonishing voice, and masses of potential. I think we are looking at a future star here. She doesn't have many subscribers at the moment, but I think she's going to end up with thousands of them.

This is the link to her Youtube channel. Go over and take a look:

Amazing singer

The next post is another one of my Original songs.

You can't make your heart feel

I skipped a couple of videos, because I thought that they weren't relevant. As this is posted in March and the first one was a Christmas song, I don't think it's the right time of year. The second was was a thank you video, to all the people that left comments for me.

So moving straight on to the 51st video I uploaded to Youtube. My first experience of this tune was by George Michael. After a bit of digging, I discovered that it was originally recorded by Bonnie Raitt. I now own both versions. Bonnie Raitt's version was quite low for a female voice, whilst George Michael sung it high for a male voice. So what if the male vocal was in a lower key. Might that make it sound more intimate. I had to find out.

This is the outcome:

The regular Youtube numbers update.

I've now got 456 Subscribers. That's 4 more than last time.

10,774 Channel Viewings. That's a very small increase. I'm happy with any increase at all :)

Finally, my total video views are 130,781. Not as big an increase as normal, but still very good.

Looking forward to the next one, I've done another David Gray song. Probably one of his most well known.

Some Honesty

Now a Billy Joel number.

I've tried out so many different Billy Joel songs, and this is one of his songs that I like an awful lot. It just feels good to sing. The song is "Honesty".

I also talk a little about one of my rarest vinyl discs :)

This is an all round great song. Check out my rendition.

The movement of my total video viewings were impressing me in their consistency. So I thought I'd look into where those views were being counted. Some videos got more viewings that others, but the surprising thing was that all videos were being viewed regularly. So the rise in numbers is across the board.

These are the current figures.

There are 452 Channel Subscriptions.

Channel viewings are up to 10,768.

Total video views are now 130,056.

Another cover next. This is one of those songs, where I heard the cover version, before the original. Then went out and bought the original. Now I've done my own cover of it :)

Came back to haunt me

Out of all the Coldplay songs, this one has to rate among the very best. One of many great tunes on the album "A rush of blood to the head", and this particular song is called "Warning sign". I didn't have any backing music for this song, so I had to once again pick up my guitar and try to get by with some basic chords :)

I also put in some random information about europe and bananas. Those two go together really well.

Go take a look at my version of Warning sign (Apologies for the amatuer guitar)

Coming up next is another song that I adore singing. It's from the wonderful Billy Joel.

Finally, a numbers update from Youtube.

Subs are up again to 451.

The channel viewings are up too at 10,762.

Overall video viewings are still racing forward and now stand at 129,349.

Things are going well.

My rendition of Eternity

Tags:
@ 07:28 AM (20 months, 6 days ago)

Another song from my request list. It's Eternity by Robbie Williams.

I said before about how my list of requests was growing too fast. So I stopped taking requests. It hasn't had much effect at all. I'm still getting more that 5 for every video I upload. I have conceded that I will never reach the end of it. A friend of mine once said to me that more demand than you can cope with is a bit of a problem, but it's a good problem to have. So I'll stick with my nice problem :)

This video has been viewed nearly two and a half thousand times, up until this post.

Anyway, here's my rendition of Eternity.

I'm still playing catch up with my videos, but the end is in sight now. I should have caught up within a month :)

My statistics on Youtube are still climbinhg healthily. This is the current state of play.

Subscribers = 448

10,752 Channel viewings

128,599 Total video views

It wasonly a short while ago when I started adding this information to my posts, so eventually, it's going to be interesting to check back over the posts and see the changing numbers. I'll find it interesting anyway :)

Next up it's a bit of Coldplay and a guitar :)

We've been travelling far

Sometime last year, I got a request from a Youtube friend, to have a go at "America" by "Neil Diamond". It took a while to work through the other tunes in my request list, but I finally made it :)

Better late than never. He was over the moon.

No beating about the bush.

This is my version:

Not so long ago, I made instrumental versions of my own songs available online. For those that were interested in covering me, or using my music in their videos. There have already been 4 uses, and more telling me that they will be using them. A couple did an acoustic version of one of my songs, and someone else used my instrumental compositions in three of their videos. Not bad at all :)

Back to the stats.

My subscribers went up one. Then down one. Then back up one again. Which gives me 438.

There are 10,702 viewings of my channel.

The overall tally for viewings of all my videos are 125,856. Still maintaining that average of about 1,000 a day.

What do we have next.

Ah yes. A bit of Robbie Williams :)

Me doing Mad world.

Tags:
@ 05:29 AM (20 months, 10 days ago)

It was time to get my guitar out. I'm not a competent player yet, but I'm working on it. Rhythm play is about the level I'm at, at the moment. So I selected a number that used some simple open chords. The original artists of this song were "Tears for fears". I purchased this on vinyl in 1982, and I think it was the band's first release. A lot of people will also know this song, ans being sung by a man called Gary Jules. He did a cover of it. The tune is "Mad world".

Up to ths point. This vid has had 2,801 viewings.

Here's the video of me performing it :)

The youtube stats have been going pretty well, since I made that comedy video for my other channel. So here we go with the latest.

The current number of Subscribers is 438. Not too long to the 500 mark now. By my reckoning, I should pass that figure in April.

My channel views are moving steadily and now stand at 10,698.

The total video viewings are now at 124,781.

There is another Neil Diamond song coming up next. Another request, but then most of the songs are :)

A Hater visited my channel

Tags:
@ 05:59 AM (20 months, 13 days ago)

Before I continue with the singing vids, I'm going to tell you about a little episode I had on Youtube, and a video I made about it.

I must be getting popular now, because a "Hater" found me. The usual things happened, that I saw on other Youtube channels. Lots of insulting behaviour. The hater hid behind anonymity. Nothing unusual there. It's how I handled it that was different. Most Youtubers will block Haters after they have made their first comments. I thought I'd approach it in another way and decided to talk to them. What happened in the end was pretty ironic. I will not spoil the surprise though.

After it was all over, I decided to make a video about it all, in the style of a silent movie parody, using the music of Elton John. I uploaded this to another channel on Youtube called "Jeffhasspoken". I created a second channel because I wanted to do other videos, but I didn't want to mix them up with my music vids.

The video hit off really well and earned the honour of second most discussed comedy video in the UK for the day. This was due to it getting a load of comments, and is still getting a good flow of comments. I didn't realise that other people would find it so funny :)

If you've got a spare 10 minutes then watch the video, and find out what happened.

Next, it's back to the music vids, and catch up time.
