Travis take two

I was very pleased with the quality of sound I was getting now. It made the music and vocals sound so much clearer.

The next selection of mine was a good song by a band called Travis. There are a number of songs of theirs I like, this one is "Why does it always rain on me". There are a number of my friends that like hearing me do this one.

Though I assume that not everybody will like it. Check it out below:

When I started on Youtube, I found it strange, trying to pretend that the camera was a bunch of people. I hadn't improved much, but I was slowly getting used to singing to a glass lens :)

My Man on the moon

This is where the sound started to get better. The music was now being played through the headphones, and not the speakers I was now using the Stereo mix channel on the soundcard. Now everything was not going through the mic. This allowed me to put a reverb effect on the vocal without doing the same to the music.

However, I was still left with one big problem. The video and audio were out of sync. The vocals were not matching the video, it looked like i was miming. However, I was most definitely singing.

Now the song. This was my second REM song. Another good one by the band. The track is called "Man on the moon".

My rendition is below.

Someone left a comment, saying that they were convinced it wasn't me singing. I think that had something to do with the sync problems, but I think I should take it as a compliment :)

Me doing Sweet Caroline

This was the final video where my sound setup was of a poor quality. So this one is quiet, like the others.

My second Neil Diamond song on Youtube. It's Sweet Caroline.

This is one of his more popular songs.

and here it is:

The sound gets much better after this one, but another problem shows it's head. I'll explain that later on.

Video 11. A good year for the roses.

My Eleventh stint in front of the webcam was doing another track by Elvis Costello, which was a cover version by him. I can't remember who wrote, and sang it first. Elvis Costello's version was the first one I heard. I only found out recently, that it wasn't originally by him!

The name of the song is "A good year for the roses". This is one of those songs that I have sung many times, and is one of a few country songs that I sing.

This is my rendition:

The next video coming up after this one is a Neil Diamond number, and then you will notice a marked improvement in the quality of sound. Though my technical problems were not completely solved. There was another major problem that I will go into later.

Moving on. I hope you like my take on this old classic.

My rendition of Sing

There is yet another group that I like for their good songs. They are "Travis".

The song I did as my Tenth video on Youtube was "Sing".

It got to number three in the summer of 2001 in the UK. The fourth of 4 top 10 hits in a row.

When I first heard Travis, I was taken by the guitar sounds they used. Quite pitchy and tinny, but the bass seemed to compensate, and made the songs seem quite rounded.

So here is my attempt at "Sing". See what you think:

This was not the only song by Travis that I did on Youtube. I also plan to do more of them. I'll probably get round to doing them at some point.

Though there are many others I want to get through between :)

Me singing The Verve.

I wanted to sing the songs of many bands and artists on Youtube, and deciding which one was to be next was less than easy with all the choice I had, but I chose a song from one of my favourite bands in the end. Their album "Urban hymns" has been played many times in my house and car. The band was "The verve" and the song was "The drugs dont work".

I read somewhere that Richard Ashcroft wrote this song about his mother, and the cancer she suffered. Which adds other dimensions to the song as far as emotional content is concerned.

I've always liked singing this song. Before I even knew what it was really about. I never thought it was about drugs. I always thought it was about the addiction of love.

So on to my performance of this song. You can see my interpretation below:

There were other songs by the verve that I enjoyed singing. That also goes for some other bands and singers that I admire. With that in mind, it's not really a shock to discover that I did more that one of their songs :)

Me singing Babylon

My eighth video was my rendition of a David Gray song. Bablyon was a number 5 hit in the UK for David in 2000. One of a number of good songs by David. I have done this a good few times on karaoke, so it didn't take too long to make the video. All I had to do was sing it. I didn't need to practice it. I knew it quite well already.

Check out the results of my effort below.

So that was 8 videos up to that point. The viewing figures for my videos were getting better with each upload, and my subscribers were steadily climbing.

Onwards and upwards. More videos to come. Lots of positive feedback. This is quite addictive. :)

Video number 7. The Scientist.

My seventh video uploaded on Youtube was my second Colplay number. A song called 'The Scientist'. One of my Coldplay favourites. Off the CD 'A rush of blood to the head'.

It was probably in my top 5 songs on that particular album. Though I regard the best song on that album as being a song called 'Warning sign'. I plan to do that acoustically in the near future. Only because I can't find the backing music for it :)

That's not exactly true. I found a company that had the backing for it in it's catalogue, and I ordered it, but that was the last I heard from them. I never ended up getting the music for it.

Enough about that though. The second of my Coldplay songs on Youtube. The Scientist. See what you think.

I want to try several more Coldplay songs. Too much choice can be a problem in itself. I like to spend a good deal of time learning any Coldplay songs. Paying attention to the expression, because I think they are quite intricate.
